This is a social
group to give owners and dogs a chance to socialise and meet
with each other. Although this group will be supervised and
questions about dog socialisation will be answered, it is not
a structured training class, and therefore not suitable for
people who require training information. Those who require
help with training their dog should attend one of our other
suitable classes.
Dogs who attend
this group must be sociable with other dogs and people, if
your dog is not very sociable with other dogs and people
it would be more benefical for you and your dog to organise
a behavioural consultation to help your dog learn how to behave
around other dogs and to give you a chance to learn how to
manage the dog in these situations. Often once a behavioural
consultation has been attended the dogs can come to the socialisation
class and watch the dogs from a distance to build their confiudence.
This is often a good was to desensitise a dog to other dogs
without putting them too close and causing them stress.
People may bring
their dog as frequently as they
are able and you do not
need to have completed one of our training classes to attend
this group, however if you have not
attended one of our training classes then prior to coming to
the socialisation group a 30 minute behavioural assessment
needs to be organised. This is to ensure your dog is suitable
for the socialisation group and also to discuss how to socialise
your dog on and off lead in an appropriate way. This behavioural
assessment costs $25 for half an hour. If I have met your dog
through one of my classes or a private lesson then this assessment
is not necessary.
Classes
are held for 1 hour each Sunday, weather permitting except
on public holiday long weekends. If
you would like to join us please call Cara
to arrange a suitable time for this behavioural assessment
and then once this is done you are welcome to come each Sunday
and join in the fun for a minimal gold coin donation (which
is given to the local RSPCA shelter).
